662814.M41
DEATHWATCH OPERATION-60124774 AFTER-ACTION REPORT

STATUS: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. PRIMARY OBJECTIVES ACHIEVED.

Astra Miliatrum petition answered. Assisted Militarum forces in maintaining remote strongpoint in Hethgard. Tyranid hive beasts scattered/destroyed. Battle-Brother Lex Astra (814.M41LR-010) confirmed KIA, geneseed unrecovered, remains unrecoverable.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:

DISPLACE/DESTROY/CAPTURE TYRANID BIOVORES (ACCOMPLISHED: +130xp)
DISPLACE/DESTROY/CAPTURE TYRANID ZOANTHROPES (ACCOMPLISHED: +120xp)

SECONDARY OBJECTIVES:

CAPTURE A LIVE ZOANTHROPE SAMPLE (FAILED)

OPPORTUNITY OBJECTIVES:

CAPTURED A LIVE LICTOR (ACCOMPLISHED: +40xp)

INDIVIDUAL EXPERIENCE REWARDS:

ANDROMAKLES: Awesome roleplay. I think the way you play your little slice of brain damage is cool (+100xp).
LUCIUS: Great duel, even if you lost. The bit at the end, when you drove your face forward, is what sold it for me (+100xp).
CASSIUS: Don’t tell me that 01 roll don’t deserve this, cause it does. Your Techmarine kicked ass in trigonomancy class (+100xp).
LEX: Cool dialogue, cool scenes, cool lines all around. Remember, this is for Lex, not your new character (+100xp).

RENOWN REWARDS AND PENALTIES:

Routed a flank of a massed Tyranid assault on a Militarum strongpoint. (+1 RENOWN)
A Battle-Brother was killed in action, with geneseed and chapter equipment unrecovered, and remains destroyed (-10 RENOWN)

+NOTATE THIS ON YOUR CHARACTER SHEETS, AND RECEIVE THE EMPEROR’S BLESSING. AVE IMPERATOR+

Thought for the day: War is the sacrament by which the Imperium is made holy, our communion one of blood and flesh.

GM’s Tips:

Please don’t lose any more Battle-Brothers. Also, let’s dial it down in replacing characters with new ones. I understand if the story takes you there, that’s fine. But since we’re now tracking permanent things like Corruption and Insanity Points, replacing characters can be seen as an easy way to not commit to that sort of thing.

Comments

Worry not, Frederick is closed circle with the deathwatch as he failed to ask the specifics of the Minotaur’s oath and he’s stubborn enough to see it to the end. Also, he comes built-in with crazy – no one travels through the warp via a Space Hulk unscathed.

Also I ain’t taking the XP, the whole transferring extra stuff on new characters doesn’t sit right with me

EDIT:

I’m sure MapTools already does this but the the Explosive Damage has been tweaked to be “One Extra Hit per Attack”, so no more double hits on hordes for better or worse.

On a side note, I like the whole less xp per objective compared to the 500xp per primary since in this case we can just “earn” extra by doing stuff on the fly. Also, I remember Rites of Battle having this Renown table where surrendering no matter the circumstance is -5 (which is ridiculous, since unless that’s to save like a sector or something will just earn you an all-you-can-eat Bolter buffet)

I have seen the checkbox in Maptools, and I have now reluctantly clicked it. Goodbye X damage funtimes.

Yeah, slowing down the XP growth was necessary for the number of sessions I’m planning on this to be. We’re playing the long game on this one, and the suggested default XP value for each mission would have led to really fast Rank 8.

Also, yeah, yeah, I used Astra Militarum. Get at me. GW needs to pay me for advertising their brand name change.

I’m confident they’ll just find some way to sue your pants off for using it without their explicit permission.

This is GW after all

EDIT:

It just occurred to me that the Victoria is trolling us as Inquisitors and Watch Captains have the power to give leave to Deathwatch vigilants. I guess she’s like Amberly who just tries her best to have fun while being an Inquisitor

^Lucius is not amused, expect more infighting come this Friday. Also thanks for the XP. See ya later, Astartes Cowboy.

As they say at the end of every Bond Movie:

“Lex will Return”
